About Injured Workers Law Firm

Injured Workers Law Firm was founded by Michele Lewane in 2006 when we opened our doors on Shrader Road in Richmond, Virginia. Since that time, we have served many injured workers as Virginia’s workers compensation lawyers. We have been their advocates by fighting to get the benefits or settlement they deserve for their workers’ compensation claim.

Since 2006, we have grown into a strong team of professionals who understand our clients’ needs. We have been able to effectively make the workers’ compensation process as painless and efficient as we possibly can for our clients. Our goal is to minimize your stress and maximize your workers’ compensation claim benefits.

We specialize in workers’ compensation and help employees who have been injured within the State of Virginia. However, we also have a strong network of attorneys in and outside of the area and State who we can refer you to for other legal issues you may be having that you may need assistance with. These may be employment issues, personal injury claims, bankruptcy, or social security.

What Makes Us Different?

Injured Workers’ Law firm is different from a typical workers’ compensation law firm.  We do not take a large volume of cases and settle them cheaply without any intention of taking the cases to a hearing.  Also, many times, clients come to us with cases for which they are clearly entitled to a recovery.  However, because the injuries to the worker may be minor or they have not lost time from work, we may decide that it is in their best interest and they will make more money not hiring an attorney and settling with the insurance company on their own.  We tell our clients upfront if hiring an attorney will get them more money.  If we don’t take your case, we give you guidance on how to settle your case on your own.

We pride ourselves on personal service.  If your case meets our criteria for acceptance, you can be assured that you will receive close personal attention.  We will keep you advised as to all aspects of the stages of your case and keep you fully informed of all developments.  You can call on us at any time with questions about your case.  When your case is ready to be resolved, we will carefully advise you as to whether your case should be settled or whether you should continue receiving your workers’ compensation benefits.  If we do have a hearing in your case, we will consult with you at every stage of the case and decide together what witnesses would be best to be called at the hearing.  Our initial consultation with you is absolutely free.  After the consultation, there is absolutely no obligation to hire us.  If we decide together that we will represent you in your case, we will do so on a contingency basis unless specified otherwise.  If you have any questions about your case, please call and we will be happy to speak with you and help you in any way we can.

Our Process

I have been representing injured workers for a number of years now and I know, all too well, the financial strain this process can put on injured workers and their families. I have made the conscious decision to help empower injured workers by supplying them with knowledge. I have designed my office to be different than most attorney’s offices because I don’t want to be just an attorney – I want to help the hardworking folks in my community and be a positive force in Virginia’s legal system.

I constantly give away free information (like my book) to injured workers in the hopes of helping them understand the rules and regulations that govern the Virginia workers’ compensation system that they are now dealing with. If I can help folks to get things on track so that they don’t need an attorney, then that’s great! This will help them by keeping as much money in their pocket as possible! Obviously, if there comes a point where legal expertise is needed then I am here to help!

I wanted to give you some information on dealing with my office, the Injured Workers Law Firm. I love our law firm.  We are an awesome team that works really well together. And I do say that as a team, I’m the attorney who does the strategizing and that type of thing, but we have different people who do wonderful things for injured workers who call my office. My right-hand person is a girl named Sheena and she has been with Injured Workers Law Firm for over 13 years.

Sheena basically is the initial contact that someone would have with us. She helps injured workers to really decide if they even need to speak to me or another attorney or not. You know, it might be a question of what do I need to do to get my mileage money, and she would just send you the mileage information, send you my book, and information to help you with that one particular question. It might be, my whole claim is denied what should I do? She would help you set up a time for us to speak. Sheena helps injured workers to understand the process they are dealing with and can help folks with a lot of the frequently asked questions. If it is a question she is not able to answer, Sheena will get that question to me to be addressed and then she will follow up with you.

Sheena’s main function is to be available to all injured workers who call my office. She spends a lot of time on the phone so if you call and she is not available, my other staff members can assist you but generally speaking, Sheena would be your primary point of contact.
